It must have been seven eight nine years since I read The Mosquito Coast but I clearly remember that I enjoyed the reading experience immensely. In some way I can identify with Allie Fox, or at least feel strong empathy with him. I'm not quite as radical as he was, but his feeling about the western consumerist society are definitely close to mine.
One thing I really appreciated was the sense of humour used to describe the shopping tour before they go to Ecuador(?), and Allie's monologues about the decaying U.S.A.
